Description: Trust entails the establishment and maintenance of strong relationships through consistent behavior, regular and candid communication, and a mutual commitment to achieve common goals. Bonds of trust are often difficult to establish and easily destroyed. Even when relationships have been functioning smoothly, however, power differentials and sudden changes in direction may stress a relationship founded on trust. Through a study of the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, I examine: 1) an organization that has changed dramatically; 2) power relationships that have also changed; and 3) the effect of these changes on bonds of trust within the organization and between the organization and its partners.
