Description: The authors argue that changes in contemporary forms of knowledge production emphasize collaboration across disciplinary perspectives. Three challenges to the integration of disciplinary perspectives are described: the disciplines‘ differing units of analysis, differing conceptual languages, and differing standards of acceptability. Taking account of these challenges, the authors draw on a series of brief case examples to show successful cognitive strategies for bridging disciplinary perspectives. Finally, they distinguish degrees of depth of perspective-taking in collaborative interdisciplinary groups.
